An Experienced Family Photographer in Fort Collins with an Eye for Portraits

Get to Know Shelley Schaffer Fine Art Photography

My 15 years of experience behind the camera have helped me develop my unique sensibility and style. I’ve photographed countless individuals and families, and I’ve even been published in magazines like Click.

But what really sets me apart is my ability to see people. With my fine art portraits, I capture the very essence of each of my subjects, giving the people that work with me a unique opportunity to understand themselves or their loved ones in a new way. Plus, you get a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind piece of art for your walls.

Preserving Your Precious Memories

Two events in my life have come to define me and my photography.

When I was 15 years old, tragedy struck, my mother was killed by a drunk driver as I sat next to her in our family sedan. I treasure the few photos that I have of us together, but I wish there were more.

When my son Ethan was born it was such a profound experience, I had a renewed sense of purpose, to be the best mom I could be.

As Ethan grew, so did my passion for photography. I picked up a camera to catalog my young son’s life. He was – and still is – my muse. A grown man now, Ethan’s also a photographer and my greatest accomplishment.

My take away from my mothers sudden passing is that the only thing that really matters in life are the people you love. The way I express the celebration that is life and love is through the art of photography.

Think about this: the photos I have of my mom are old, crumbly, and faded for the most part. How will your children experience your family photos? 10 years from now, 20 years from now? Technology moves on, thumb drives get lost, back ups fail… This is why I feel it’s so important to experience photography as it was meant to be experienced, in a printed format. It’s utter magic to see a photo come to life on a canvas or fine art paper.

ARE WE NEIGHBORS?

I’m located in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado

I am proud to be a northern Colorado family photographer, helping parents throughout the Fort Collins, Boulder, and Cheyenne communities capture striking images of their loved ones.

My studio is located in Old Town Fort Collins, in the historical Museum of Art. Photo shoots can be held here or on location in the northern Colorado area.

“I needed to get some studio pics done and let me just say I was absolutely blown away by the customer service, quality of the portraits, and turn around. Shelley listened to what I wanted, gave some suggestions where I was fuzzy, and delivered great pics!”

JEN H., CLIENT

Nice to meet you.

I’m Shelley Schaffer.

I’m an experienced photographer with more than 15 years of experience behind the camera. My husband Jeff and I live in a 100 year old bungalow with a massive garden, which is my other obsession.

I have traveled all over the world taking classes and workshops in pursuit of my passion for photography. I never stop learning, or feel that I’ve arrived. I pursue photography in many formats, both digital and film. What I bring to the table is a mastery of each piece of the puzzle involved in creating a piece of portrait artwork, from the equipment and software to the intangibles like color theory and mood.

Outside of work, I love traveling, gardening, fly fishing, exploring the local art scene, and spending time with friends and family.
